Eefer!

As part of the exciting Brand Refresh for the British television channel E4, I was involved in the year-long development of the E4 robot 'Eefer,' from initial character design through to character modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, and animation.

The character was modeled using Cinema 4D, then UV unwrapped and textured in Adobe Photoshop. Eefer was given a scratched and rusted finish, with various hatches and compartments to make him feel part of the real world, as if he had been around since the channel's launch in 2001. The art direction evolved over time, starting with a more innocent, shiny look, before transforming into the rusted, beer-swilling robot we see onscreen today.

A custom character rig was built to bring Eefer to life, combining character animation and motion capture for five indents.
